The heavy rain in the morning on 28th September filled East Freshwater Pond with a bulk of water. It relieves us of anxiety for losing winter habitat for waterfowls.
The pond completely dried up in the past few months.

A male mallard who had a patch of glossy green plumage at his head was observed at Observation Hut 3. Molting season from summer feather to breeding plumage could have begun amongst ducks. IMG_0056
The below photographs were taken a few days ago at Observation Hut 2. The photos clearly caught the manner of Great Egret to swallow big fish, a mullet.dcc5ef34

【Cattle Egret】
A cattle Egret is continuously being observed in the park.  It moved around the island in Shio-iri Pond and then flew away to the Eastern Freshwater Pond.

Finally a Brown Flycatcher was observed as the first record of this Autumn migratory season.  It stayed in the western part of the park.  The species is clearly identifiable from other flycatchers with a white belly without any stripes.
